What Is MSDE ?

MSDE means Microsoft Data Engine. MSDE is data engine fully compatible with Microsoft SQL Server. It enables to create mobile and shared solutions, which can be transferred to Microsoft SQL Server with no need to intervene in the program. Application built with MSDE can be distributed free of charge to end users and there can be used Microsoft SQL Server features such as high reliability and ability to concatenate replicated data. Optimal MSDE performance is guaranteed for 5 simultaneous user accesses at maximum and 2 GB of data at maximum.

Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT contain network software for clients: Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT Workstation, UNIX, Apple Macintosh (it requires ODBC driver by different producer) and OS/2 (it requires ODBC driver by different producer). Another network driver is necessary for networks Banyan VINES or AppleTalk ADSP, access to Novell NetWare is provided by NWLink.
